LISBON -- The Columbiana County Educational Service Center (ESC) has hired a new treasurer and is also working to improve the Opportunity School.
Current Treasurer Lucas Cooper's resignation was approved by the ESC board in June.
During a special meeting of the board in July the board approved hiring Sean Gaffney as his replacement.
Cooper submitted his resignation in order to accept a position with the West Branch Local School District.
Cooper served as ESC Treasurer since 2022 and will continue through July 31, which is when his resignation takes effect.
In the meantime, he is helping to train Gaffney in the position.
Gaffney, of Columbiana, has previously served as assistant treasurer for Leetonia schools.
As for the Opportunity School, the board approved the estimate presented by Hired Gun Construction 2 LLC for the maintenance work at the school.
The estimate was for $34,700.
According to minutes of the regular July board meeting posted online, Cooper said the ESC is looking to complete some "much needed" work at the Opportunity School.
Located in Lisbon, the Opportunity School provides specialized education and developmental programs for students in grades 5-12.
Also during the meeting the board approved a new contract with West Branch schools for additional classrooms at Knox.
According to the meeting minutes, Cooper said the ESC is currently up to renting seven rooms at Knox.
