WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville school board Monday hired a new superintendent and treasurer.
Board members unanimously approved Kylie Exline as superintendent and Sarah Palm as treasurer. In a corresponding move, the board accepted Exline’s resignation as assistant jr./sr. high school principal and athletic director.
Exline, who joined the district as athletic director and bus supervisor in August 2024 and then became the assistant principal/athletic director for the 2025-2026 school year, has served as the interim superintendent since the May 29 resignation of former superintendent Dave Cappuzzello.
Exline will continue as interim superintendent with a board approved stipend of $150 a day from May 29 through July 31.
His resignation as assistant principal/athletic director will be effective July 30, and he will transition from interim superintendent to superintendent with a two-year contract on Aug. 1 at an annual salary of $105,000.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity; it’s something you kind of hope will happen, and that is why I applied,” Exline said. “It’s a touch early in my educational journey, but I think my track record with what I have done for staff and students in various roles speaks to my readiness.”
Exline said as far as any plans for the district, and what is on the horizon, the district is going to try its best to move a step forward, clean up messes on their end and try to push past that.
With his resignation as assistant principal and athletic director, the district will have to post those positions and begin a search for his replacements.
Exline said having just been in the role of athletic director and knowing some of the ins and outs of the position, his experience there will be helpful in the search for a qualified athletic director.
The two positions will be posted separately but will keep options open for the possibility of finding one person who may be able to fill both roles.
Board Member Chris Amato said he can’t say enough about Exline, and board member Lisa Ferguson said she has great expectations for him.
Jon Geramita, Wellsville Teacher Association, said Exline was a wonderful athletic director and he will be a wonderful superintendent.
Sarah Palm comes to the Wellsville district from Madison Local Schools in Lake County where she was treasurer. She will begin her position as district treasurer/CFO with a two-year contract on Aug. 1 at an annual salary of $110,000.
Palm said she decided to apply to Wellsville because she has had a lot of experience in multiple counties working with different size districts and her very first job was with a smaller district and after working with some of the larger city schools she just wanted to get to working for a smaller district.
“You get so much more of a connection with the staff and the students, and it’s just a different feeling,” Palm said.
Board members welcomed Palm to the district and said they look forward to working with her.
Board President Gary Althiser, speaking on behalf of the board said the decision to hire Exline as superintendent and Palm as treasurer/CFO was based on the belief that they were both the best candidates and the board members were pretty unanimously on that.
According to Althiser, the district received 19 applications for superintendent, interviewing four — James Walsh, Caleb Crowl, Tom Cunningham and Exline. The district received nine applications for treasurer, interviewing three — Sean Gaffney, Jordan Wrask and Palm.
