Water department aware of taste and odor problems affecting customers
EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool Water Department is aware of taste and odor problems affecting customers.
The department issued a notice to residents through social media saying it is aware of the “earthy, musty taste and odor problems” affecting East Liverpool customers and that other communities along the Ohio River that treat river water are also experiencing similar conditions.
“We are trying to improve the water quality by enhanced treatments at the water plant and complete flushing of the system will begin June 15,” the social media post said. “This will begin our normal semi-annual flushing process.”
The flushing will take place in the following approximate order: It will start in the East End, Dixonville, downtown, Northside area, outer St. Clair, West End, Gardendale area, Pleasant Heights, and then LaCroft.
According to the department, the process will take approximately two weeks to complete, precluding any other water break and emergencies.
The department noted it will try to do its best to post daily where the flushing will be taking place.
“Although customers may experience a temporary discoloration in their water and/or low pressure during this time, the water is safe to use without boiling,” the post read. “We recommend refraining from washing any white laundry while we are in your area. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, this is our continuing effort to supply our customers with a quality product.”
