Three people seriously injured in Salem Township crash
LISBON — Troopers from the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left three people seriously injured at 12:59 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of state Route 45 and Teegarden Road, more commonly known as the bottom of the ski slope in Salem Township.
According to a patrol press release, a 2017 Chevy Impala was traveling southbound on state Route 45 when an eastbound Chevy S-10 on Teegarden Road failed to yield at the stop sign and was struck by the Impala in the intersection. State Route 45 was temporarily shut down due to the crash, but then reopened.
All three occupants of the vehicles were transported to Mercy Health/St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, where they were listed at the time in critical, but stable condition. At least two of the injured were taken by two separate Stat MedEvac helicopters which landed on the road facing each other, according to a post and photo by Leetonia Fire and EMS.
The patrol said none of the injured were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Agencies assisting at the scene besides the Leetonia Fire Department and Stat MedEvac were the Winona Fire Department and Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation. The patrol urges motorists to always wear their seatbelt when operating or riding in a motor vehicle.
