Southern Local seniors receive scholarships

SALINEVILLE – In opening Southern Local High School’s Senior Awards Assembly, Robert Shansky noted the accolades involved more than the members of the Class of 2026.
Shansky said in some ways, the event was a bigger milestone for the many parents and others who supported the youth through their school years.
And Jess Krulik, the school’s principal, agreed.
“It’s a celebration for you but also for your parents. And there will be a lot of smiles and a lot of tears,” he said, adding he’s quite proud of the teens for their many accomplishments, both academically and athletically.
The program included the presentation of more than $200,000 in scholarships and honors cords to students who earned a 3.0 grade point average or better by their parents or others close to them.
Receiving the cords were: Catherine Brewer, Aubrey Brookes, Cheyenne Buzzard, Cole Clemens, Kaiden Crooms, Aiden Davis, Alyssa Deeley, Alayna DesJardins, Connor Dickey, Chase Forbes, Cole Forbes, Breena Frischkorn, Trevor Goff, Logan Howell, Destiny Huffman, Madalyne Jones, Haylee Kellogg, Robert Knox Jr., Zacary Mayfield, Jacob McCurdy, Aubree McDole, Mara Miller, Skilar Parrish, Patrick Pearson, Lola Perfetto, Mason Pitts, Jaelynn Potts, Autumn Rodgers, Maleah Rose, Anastasia Shew and Allyssa Shroades.
Receiving Career Based Intervention cords for completing work-based learning credentialing were: Olivea Austin, Leah Batcha, Lyndsay Boyer, Wrenith Burkett, Alyssa Deeley, Alayna DesJardins, Kenneth Farnsworth, Evan Householder, Colton Mitchell, Drake Mitchell, Lola Perfetto, Jaelynn Potts, Jordyn Smith, Robert Knox Jr., Patrick Pearson, Wyatt Whaley and Sarinah Patrick.
Recognized for completing pre-apprenticeship programs were: Patrick Pearson, for information technology; and Sarinah Patrick, Olivea Austin and Robert Knox Jr., all for hospitality and tourism.

The OHSAA Courageous Student Award, presented to student-athletes who have overcome adversity, wen to Landen Heffner and Shroades.
