Murder mystery movie with local ties to premiere in theatre
EAST LIVERPOOL (WKBN) — A murder mystery movie that had scenes filmed in East Liverpool is set to premiere in a Cleveland movie theatre this weekend.
The movie, “Kingsbury Run,” covers the real-life efforts of famous investigator Eliot Ness and the Cleveland Police Department as they try to track down the killer of at least 12 people during the Great Depression. It will premiere on Saturday, June 6, at the Capitol Theatre in Cleveland.
WKBN discussed the movie with local detective and filmmaker Jon Price in April, 2025. In June, 2025, actors from all over Ohio and Pennsylvania gathered at The Thompson House, an East Liverpool mansion that was built in 1876. The house was once the living quarters of the family of Cassius C. Thompson, the patriarch of the pottery industry in the East Liverpool area. The lead role of Eliott Ness is played by Canfield native and retired Ohio correction officer Jim Osso.
Price said that the process of making the movie lasted a year and a half to two years. He gave credit to God, his Co-Producer Brian Jones, the actors, and everyone who provided him with resources.
“There are so many people involved in this film that, when you watch the film, you’ll never even see them. They were highly involved.” Price said.
Price said that viewers will recognize the Thompson House because it was used for multiple scenes, including a scene where a murder is depicted.
“It’s perfect for the time period, and it’s a wonderful piece of property,” Price said.
Price is proud that the film is as accurate and factual as possible. Price even received input from relatives of some of the victims.
“They would tell me certain things, and we used information from some family members to include in the film so that it was more accurate,” Price said.
Price said that he and Jones will work on another project together in the future. Price and Jones are discussing the idea of producing a movie to bring awareness to the topic of children who are in group homes. Price said that he and Jones work really well together.
We’ve learned to work with each other really well, and he has his strong points, and I have my strong points,” Price said.
