Liverpool Township trustees approve 2027 budget
LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP – The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees met in a regular session meeting and followed that with a budget hearing meeting to approve the 2027 budget on Tuesday.
During the Budget Hearing, the trustees unanimously approved the 2027 budget as prepared by Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati.
According to the approved budget the township estimates a total revenue for 2027 of approximately $1,650,921.15, with $169,427.15 in the General Fund; $15,019 in Motor Vehicle Tax; $145.06 in Gasoline Tax; $485,350 Road and Bridge Fund; $27,656 Permissive Motor Vehicle Tax; $5,800 Cemetery; $668,000 Police District Fund; and $134,700 Fire District Fund.
During the regular board of trustees meeting, the trustees discussed the potential need for a fire levy due to the fire department not having enough funds to stay solvent. Trustees will have further discussion on the matter at their meeting.
Resolutions to exclude the approval of the City of Salem, which approval would otherwise be required for an alternate method of apportionment of local government funds monies to be distributed in 2027, and approving a new alternate method of apportionment of local government funds monies to be distributed in 2027 were adopted with all-in-favor votes.
Flati in her report, told the trustees that she was performing day-to-day activities, working on the May bank reconciliation, and completed the 2027 budget.
Police Chief Jared Kinemond said the 5 car needs to have the brakes checked, and the 8 car needs the exhaust checked.
Kinemond requested an executive session to be held at the end of the meeting for personnel matters to discuss employment. The trustees entered the executive session after completing the remaining agenda and returned to an open meeting session prior to adjournment, with no actions taken.
Road Department Supervisor Chris Bosworth said the weed spraying around township buildings and guard rails would be done this week and that the crew was trying to finish up prep work for the chip and seal which will be done in July.
Bosworth requested to purchase a battery for the roller, a spare rim for the skid steer and to have the side windows tinted in the two new trucks to reduce heat and sun glare in them, which were approved.
Bosworth also told the trustees that due to the death of someone at the company, the tree service company he was approved to hire to trim the trees along Boring Lane may not be available. He was given the authorization to check next week on it and if they were not available, to contract with the second company who submitted a bid.
Trustee Dennis Giambroni reminded everybody that the cyber security kickoff meeting for township employees would be held June 11 at 1:30 p.m.
The trustees approved the minutes from the May 26 meeting and payment of bills totaling $31,430.79.
Larry Taylor from Trebel asked the trustees to consider and addendum to extend their electric aggregation into 2029-2030. That will be discussed further by the trustees at a later meeting.
The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building, 2485 Boring Lane, East Liverpool.
