East Liverpool school board approves new principal, band director

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool school board has hired a new principal for North Elementary and band director for the junior senior high school.

The board Thursday night unanimously approved Lindsay Ramsey as the new principal. She is currently an intervention and behavioral support specialist at North Elementary.

Board members expressed their excitement over Ramsey’s selection and welcomed her to her new position.

Ramsey has been with the East Liverpool City School District for nearly 20 years and, according to a media release from the district, brings “experience, a deep commitment to student success, and a passion for fostering positive school cultures.

In addition to her being an intervention/behavioral specialist at North since 2022, Ramsey spent more than 10 years as a behavioral intervention specialist and fourth grade general education teacher at LaCroft Elementary.

“North Elementary’s newest principal is truly a familiar face. Mrs. Ramsey has built strong relationships with students, staff, and families throughout her years of service to East Liverpool City Schools,” the media release said. “Her leadership, dedication, and student-centered approach make her an outstanding choice to lead North Elementary into the future.”

Ramsey is experienced in helping students with diverse academic, behavioral and emotional needs and has led in the development and implementation of individualized education programs, conducted functional behavioral assessment, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams and is an active member of the district and building leadership teams, the PBIS/PAX Committee and School Safety Committee

Throughout her career, Ramsey has specialized in supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. She has led the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), conducted Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to ensure student success. She is also an active member of both the district and building leadership teams, the PBIS/PAX Committee, and the School Safety Committee. She is currently working toward her Master of Science in educational leadership.

Also at the meeting, the board unanimously approved Lanave Burse as the new director of bands at East Liverpool Junior Senior High School.

Burse is a graduate of East Liverpool High School and has more than 25 years experience with music education and performance in elementary, secondary and collegiate music programs.

Burse currently serves as concert band director, instrumental music methods instructor, clinical supervisor and adjunct faculty member at the University of Mount Union. She has also served as the director of band and music educator at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.

Burse has a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in French Horn from Youngstown State University and a Master of Music Education also from Youngstown State University.

“We are excited to welcome Class of 1993 alumna Lori Burse to East Liverpool High School and to bring home one of our own,” said Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig. “Her passion for music education, proven leadership, and dedication to student success make her an outstanding fit for our district. We look forward to the positive impact she will have on our band program and our students.”

Burse will begin her duties as director of bands for East Liverpool Junior Senior High School for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
