Commissioners vacate section of Skyview Drive in St. Clair Township
LISBON –A 40-foot section of Skyview Drive in St. Clair Township was vacated this week, with no opposition in attendance at the commissioners’ meeting Wednesday.
Petitioner Tammy L. Palma was the lone person there for the public hearing and said the owner of the neighboring property already signed off on the vacation.
According to the resolution granting the petition, “the portion of the road which is the subject of the vacation petition was never opened and/or has been abandoned and not used for a period in excess of 21 years.”
The three county commissioners voted unanimously to grant the petition.
In other business during a recent meeting, commissioners approved a proclamation declaring today as Annual Amateur Radio Operators’ Appreciation Day, recognizing that “amateur radio operators play a vital role in emergency communications preparedness plans for the nation, state and local government agencies.
During the meeting, Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency Director Peggy Clark spoke and there are three different radio clubs who all volunteers and provide assistance to the EMA, including the East Palestine, Lisbon and Triangle amateur radio groups. The Triangle group is in East Liverpool. All three groups recently participated in the graded drill for the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station. A field day will be held today for emergency communications preparedness exercises.
According to the proclamation, Ohio has more than 28,000 licensed amateur radio operators who donate their time, their equipment and their expertise to provide public service and emergency communication at no cost.
Commissioners also approved several resolutions for permits to work within the county road right-of-way for installation of fiber optic lines by Charter/Spectrum for two sections of Leetonia Road in Salem Township, two sections of Rochester Road in West Township, single sections of Shadyside Road in Liverpool Township, Stookesberry Road in Elkrun Township and Y & O Road in Madison Township.
Commissioners granted permission to the Family Recovery Center to use the courthouse parking lot for the annual overdose awareness event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29, reappointed Robert Gbur to a three-year term on the Columbiana County Airport Authority Board with the term expired June 30, 2029 and journalized a liquor license permit for Englefield Inc., Alliance Duchess, Knox Township, with no hearing.
The next meeting of commissioners will be 9 a.m. July 1 in the downtown courthouse.
