Wellsville school board approves several staffing changes
WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville school board Monday night approved multiple staffing changes.
During the personnel portion of their meeting, board members approved two hirings and two resignations.
Emma Dierenger was approved for hire as the junior high cheerleading coach and Brianna Sullivan as a licensed social worker on a two-year contract.
Resignations were accepted and approved for Maia Amato, treasurer/CFO effective Aug. 1, and Mark Hart, bus driver, effective Aug. 12. The board vote was unanimous for all, with board member Chris Amato abstaining on Amato’s resignation.
Superintendent David Cappuzzello said he wanted to wish Maia Amato luck with her new job.
FMLA leave was approved for Maia Amato effective May 18 and for Morgan Roush potentially effective Aug. 30.
For the finance portion of the meeting, board members approved the financial report and then and now certificates as presented to them.
Contracts and service agreements approved included the K-12 business contract for fiscal year 2027; the fiscal year 2027 service agreement with the Columbiana County Educational Service Center; renewal of the Schools of Ohio Risk Sharing Authority (SORA) for the district’s property, fleet and liability insurance through McBane for fiscal year 2027; and the renewal of Raptor Technologies for fiscal year 2027.
Approval was also granted for the bus supervisor stipend for Melissa Antonio in the amount of $10,000 for the 2026-2027 school year with the prior year amount being $2,400 for bus route coordinator.
Under new business, approval was given to accept the following donations: for the high school yearbook staff, $285.90 from car wash donations; track, $700 from Randy Thrasher; Garfield Principal Fund, from Reading for Education, $364.95; Thespians, from WTA, $100; high school football, from Orange and Black Boosters, $1,500; Garfield principal fund From Scholastic Book Fair, $111.19, $268.30, $268.92 and $573.16; Garfield Principal Fund, from Box Tops for Education, $40.50; and Junior Class, from grand march donation, $69.
The graduating class of 2026 was approved contingent on meeting all state and federal requirements.
Cappuzzello said he wanted to congratulate all the graduating seniors, and said he believes there are 29 official graduates with two international students.
Update to NEOLA Polices was placed on second reading.
The 2027 tax budget for the Wellsville Library was approved.
The Wellsville Board of Education usually meets on the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. in the media center at the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School, 1 Bengal Blvd. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 29.
Reports to the board included an update on the buildings and grounds and a lot of projects going on with summer coming up, including changing lights to LED, electric hot waters tanks installed at Daw in the gym along with getting boiler piping fixed and new treads on steps at the Jr. Sr. High school.
