Wellsville hires new village administrator
Jerry Medley
WELLSVILLE — Wellsville has a new village administrator.
Wellsville Mayor Bob Boley announced during Tuesday’s meeting of the Wellsville Village Council that he hired Jerry Medley as the new village administrator, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Jeff Cope.
Council was in favor of the mayor’s selection of Medley, who started in the position on Monday.
Boley said he went with Medley because he knows Medley and knows he has the ability to lead. Medley is also familiar with the post since he held it in the past, Boley said.
Boley said there were other people considered but they did not have the qualifications that Medley has.
Medley said he accepted the position because the village needs help and needs someone in that position and there was no one else. He also said that even though he is 79 years old he has no intention to quit working.
Medley gave his first report to council as the new administrator during the meeting and told the mayor and council they needed to hire one more employee for road and cemetery duties. He the two they have now, one of whom has been with them for a while and one recently hired, just aren’t enough.
Boley said he would contact one of the applicants he recently spoke with and let him know the village could hire him.
