Wellsville council votes to rebid lease for Wellsville Reservoir
WELLSVILLE — Village council this week voted unanimously to rebid the lease on the Wellsville Reservoir after receiving one bid that came in substantially lower than the amount for which it was leased last year.
The bid received was $2,490 for a 12-month lease for surface use only of the reservoir. Council decided to reject the bid due to the getting $8,000 for a 12-month lease last year.
Following discussion on whether or not leasing the land would interfere with mineral rights, and coming to the determination that it shouldn’t due to the lease being for surface use only, council voted to advertise to rebid the lease.
On May 12 the village held the bid opening for the demolition of 447 to 449 Main St., so they have a company in place and ready to go pending the outcome of the lawsuit against the building owner to pay for the demolition. The bids were presented to council members during the May 19 meeting. Council members will vote to reject or accept any bids at the next council meeting.
Bids were received from Veterans Group for $167,500; Pro Quality Demolition for $145,900; Mike Pusateri Excavating, Inc., for $144,500; and Singel Excavating, LLC for $207,000.
Village Administrator Jerry Medley gave his first report as administrator during the meeting in which he said the village cannot operate under just two employees and another one needs to be hired to get things done. Boley said he would contact the person he recently interviewed and let him know the village can hire him.
Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah Yu said that the 2027 tax budget was complete, and she plans to post it in June for any residents who want to review it. She also said that the village had received the grant award for $875,000 requested on behalf of Buckeye Water District to repair the water tank on state Route 45.
Boley asked if the village was going to do anything for the America250 celebration and Council President Keith Thorn responded by saying a committee should be established for that to which council members Cindy Mick and Karen Dash said they would be a part.
Boley also said that he needs help with getting the area around the flood wall cleaned up before June 23 when the Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting a flood wall inspection.
Mick has called for a property committee meeting to be held in council chambers on May 26 at 6 p.m. This will be a joint committee meeting with the Cemetery/Park/Equipment Committee.
Council Member Mike Lombardozzi suggested advertising for bids for mowing at the cemetery, which council approved. He also noted that he plans to start taking inventory and evaluating the village’s equipment so he knows what they have to work with.
There were no reports from the police, fire or zoning departments
Council unanimously voted to adopt the resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor.
The minutes from the May 5 meeting were approved as presented.
Bills totaling $4,852.03 were approved for payment.
The Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 2.
