Village requests help to clean up cemetery

WELLSVILLE – A village council member is seeking volunteers to help prepare Spring Hill Cemetery for the upcoming holidays.

Council Member Michael Lombardozzi, who chairs the Cemetery/Park/Equipment Committee, said during Tuesday’s meeting of the Wellsville Village Council that he welcomes any volunteers who are willing to come and help get the cemetery ready for its two biggest days – Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.

Lombardozzi said that anybody can come out any day and help. Typically there is someone there during the day and he has been there in the evenings, he said.

If anyone is wanting to help, call the mayor’s office and let them know when they can come help.

Lombardozzi said that he has been up at the cemetery for the past three to four days to help with the mowing.

Mayor Bob Boley said that he and Cody Cole spent the day at the cemetery cutting as much of the grass there as they could and would be back at it Wednesday, weather permitting.

Boley reminded residents to remember to remove grave decorations within a week after the holiday they were placed for.

Police Lt. Marsha Eisenhart asked the council to approve Zachary Cameron as a new part-time police officer, to which council unanimously agreed. Council also approved with a unanimous vote Fire Chief Barry Podwel’s request for approval for Bruce Minamyer as full-time firefighter.

Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah Yu said the project information packet for the marina inland renovation grant to Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has been received and the village will receive the actual grant agreement after ODNR reviews it.

Yu also said that ODNR has informed her that the grant funding for the marina inland project has been re-appropriated into the 2027-2028 House Bill 730, which is good news because it means the funding is still available and the village doesn’t have to rush now and they can take their time to do the marina project.

Yu thanked Dallis Dawson and Associates who helped with the packet and included the dredging information with it from Buckeye Water District (BWD), which gives ODNR a better understanding in seeing that the village is still trying to get grants for the dredging part of the project, which gives them more time to finish the inland project and purchasing the boat docks and other supplies.

Boley also noted he wants parents to advise their children to be careful and residents to watch out for children on bikes and scooters because he seen several cases where children were almost in accidents.

Boley also reminded residents that dumpsters will be behind village hall today for village residents who have household items to dispose of. He is going to ask Will Addison who is providing the dumpsters to have someone there to make sure it’s not abused.

The Army Corps of Engineers will be doing a flood inspection June 23-24, and the village needs to be prepared for the inspection.

There was also no zoning report.

Council Member Cindy Mick, who chairs the Property/Sewer Committee, asked Village Solicitor Chris Weeda to check into whether RVs belong in a mobile home park. Weeda said he would look into it.

Starting at $2.99/week.
