St. Clair Township trustees approve transient vendor license for solar company
CALCUTTA — St. Clair Township trustees Monday night approved a transient vendor license for a solar company to go door-to-door.
The 90-day permit approved for Trinity Solar, based in New Jersey, allows the company to do door-to-door sales of solar panels for residential property owners.
Trustee Robert Swickard said since they went through the required process, he doesn’t know how they can deny the request since they did follow all the rules. Trustee Jordan Williams agreed with him.
It was noted that the township has legislation in place prohibiting the solar farms, but there is nothing prohibiting homeowners from having solar panels.
Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson said the company has taken all the proper steps to obtain the permit and submitted their check for the permit fee. She also had Police Chief Brian McKenzie run a background check for the applicant, which turned up nothing.
McKenzie said the department’s FOP Golf Outing held at Turkana on Saturday was a huge success and he wants to thank the community, all the sponsors and everyone who showed up play.
McKenzie said there were 40 hole sponsors, with Tri-State Ford being the corporate sponsor, and 144 golfers.
The proceeds from the event go toward the department and their Cops Fore Kids program.
McKenzie also noted that extra spots have been posted for security during the Memorial Day event.
One of the department’s cruisers, which has been out of service for an extended period, is now back in service.
Road Foreman Dave Smith requested and was given approval for the purchase of scratch cold patch for chip and seal prep work on Cricket Lane and Berkshire Road from Highway LLC at a cost of $78,864.
There was no one present to give reports for Glenmoor or St. Clair volunteer fire departments.
The trustees unanimously approved accepting the donation of land parcel #61-08021.000 to the township by Sharon Marvel and requesting survey work from the county engineer for the parcel.
An application to work within a township right-of-way submitted by AEP for work on three utility poles on Lyman Drive off East Liverpool Road was approved.
The trustees also unanimously voted to approve Tammy Palma’s requests for the township to vacate a portion of Skyview Drive.
Minutes of the May 4 meeting were approved.
Purchase orders totaling $117,402.41, super blankets certificates totaling $1,500 and payment of bills totaling 144,711.89 were approved.
St. Clair Township offices will be closed on May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
The St. Clair Travel and Tourism Memorial Day will take place Sunday at Calcutta Square. The flag raising is at noon, live music from 1 to 9 p.m. and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
