Seven Beaver Local staff members retired in April
LISBON — The Beaver Local School District lost seven staff members to retirement in April.
The retirements approved by the board of education during the regular meeting included a guidance secretary, elementary Title I teacher, fifth grade teacher, cafeteria worker, seventh grade teacher, special education secretary and special education director.
“We are losing a wealth of experience and some tremendous people who have made a difference in countless lives,” District Superintendent Eric Lowe said.
Lowe added that he has personally been fortunate to work closely with the staff members at the old middle school and in other roles at the new building.
He said he appreciates their years of dedication and noted the lasting impact they have each had on students and the district.
The staff members retiring are Sharon Barrett, Vicki Barnett, Thelma Kelly, Lorie McCoy, Kelly McKenzie, Karen Wathey, and BethAnne Rettos.
Board President Greg Eisenhart said that many people have made significant contributions to the district and they will be missed.
Board member John Campbell agreed, noting that many students have been impacted by each of the staff members.
Campbell also wanted to commend staff for their response to the school bus accident.
He wished to recognize bus driver Kasie Stevenson specifically for her “leadership and care in ensuring student safety.”
In other matters, Lowe also announced that administrators at the elementary level reported the successful completion of a third grade after school tutoring program that served more than 30 students.
“With state testing season underway, the school is preparing students for upcoming English Language Arts and math assessments,” he said.
The board approved several personnel matters during the meeting, including new three-year administrative contracts for the elementary and high school building principals and a 1-year rehire contract for Dr. William Young as middle school assistant principal.
Several other contracts were also renewed, including for athletic coaching positions.
