EAST LIVERPOOL — An investigation is ongoing into the pipe bomb discovered in the basement of a house at 175 Avondale St. on Saturday.

According to East Liverpool City Police Officer Bryce Allen, who responded to the call, the live bomb was discovered by the homeowner in the basement when she went to the basement to do spring cleaning.

East Liverpool Police Department called in the Youngstown Police Department Bomb Squad who retrieved the pipe bomb and disarmed it at an undisclosed location and took it for training after that that, Allen said.

Allen also said that he does not know yet what was inside the bomb, but was told by the bomb squad that the amount of accelerant used in making the bomb was “definitely overkill” when asked if the bomb had denoted, how much of an explosion it would have produced.

Allen noted that with the incident being under investigation there are only a few details they can release at this time.
