EL man arrested for arson following domestic incident

EAST LIVERPOOL — Christopher Stevens, age and address not provided, was arrested and charged with obstruction of official business, aggravated menacing, inducing panic, aggravated arson and arson following an incident early Tuesday morning at 665 Walnut St.
According to Police Chief John Lane, Stevens had a domestic incident with his girlfriend, and he told her he was going to burn the place down. After the girlfriend left, she saw smoke inside the residence and the police returned to the residence and was told by Stevens who refused to let them inside that he had burnt popcorn.
After officers were able to make entry into the residence, they found Stevens had tried to set a mattress on fire. Lane noted the mattress wouldn’t burn, and the fire went out.
The East Liverpool Fire Department was also on the scene.
