East Liverpool school board approves graduating class for 2026
EAST LIVERPOOL – East Liverpool City School District is celebrating student successes as the school year comes to a close.
In his report Thursday, Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig said that as the school year concludes the district has continued to build momentum and has celebrated many student successes including student Presley Jones being named a WYTV Hometown Hero.
The schools continue to remain focused on academics through state testing, AP exams and targeted supports such as MTSS WIN.
“Our students are excelling in activities such as SkillsUSA, while community engagement remains strong with events like ‘Bridge the Gap.'” Ludwig said. “As graduation approaches, Jessica Martin Borza has been named commencement speaker and senior recognitions are underway.”
Ludwig said the district has been honored with multiple OHSPRA Achievement Awards that reflect excellence in communication and overall, the district remains proud and focused as it finishes the year strong.
Hamilton told the board that the district received notice of a community reinvestment are (CRA) application for a tax exemption from KimPres Real Estate LLC. The board will review and discuss the application in committee before voting on it at a future meeting.
Hamilton gave a report on the recent Athletic Committee meeting in which they discussed the ticket prices for next season, did a winter sports recap and drafted a memorandum of understanding for the girl’s wrestling team to have a coach, had a discussion on the travel policy and athletic director and budget. Hamilton noted that a new position was not being created for the coach but simply taking one of the existing wrestling coaches and used them as a supplement.
Under finances, the board members approved the treasurer’s report for March as presented to them.
Board members also approved the creation of a Westgate Special Education student activity account, the renewal of the therapy contract with East Liverpool City Hospital, a purchase agreement to add cameras to the four new buses and the ESC contracts.
For personnel, board members accepted and approved the resignation of Greg Voorhees, maintenance worker, effective Feb. 28.
They also approved multiple supplemental employees for the 2026-2027 school year, seasonal and casual workers for 2026 and extra work and overtime for employee John Blake for the 2025-2026 school year.
Board members gave approval for the graduation of 114 students for the Class of 2026 providing all requirements by the board of education and the Ohio Department of Education are met.
Ticket prices for the 2026-2027 school year and the annual fifth grade field trip to Camp Fitch for the 2026-2027 school year were approved.
All the board members in their final comments extended congratulations to all of this year’s graduates. Cooper said this is the largest graduating class in some time.
Cooper and board member Jennifer Davis both noted they are very excited about all the student concerts coming up.
Hamilton congratulated Megan Hernandez, communications, ELCS, for the awards she received at the Ohio Public Schools Public Relations Conference on Thursday in Columbus.
The school board also met in a special meeting on Thursday morning for an executive session for the evaluation of Treasurer Anson Wiegand. No action was taken.
The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 28.
