Communities to observe National Day of Prayer
The Wellsville and East Liverpool communities will be observing the annual National Day of Prayer.
The Wellsville Area Ministerial Association will meet at the flood walls in Wellsville on May 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Eddie Murphy of the Wellsville Foundation noted the theme for the 2026 National Day of Prayer is “Glorify God among the nations seeking him in all generations.”
Murphy also noted the National Day of Prayer was established through a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 and is celebrated annually on the first Thursday in May.
In East Liverpool the Annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be held on May 7 at the East Liverpool Area Community Center, 110 Maine Blvd. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 8 a.m. The event will take place in the lower level.
Admission is by ticket only. Tickets which are $10 each can be purchased from any Prayer Breakfast committee members, at area churches and at the Community Center.
Committee members include Pastors Ernest and Shannon Peachey, Mike Dyer, Larry Rose, Ce Ce Douglas, Bill Barlow, Brent Kimball, Gini Jackson, Jim Lewis, Mark Neville, and John and Sue Richmond.
There will be a limited number of tickets available to purchase at the door the day of the event.
Masters of Ceremonies will be Dyer and John Richmond. A presentation of colors will be conducted by the Tri-State Burial Group, and special music will be provided by Marla Miller.
The focus point of prayer for pastors from area churches will be Tri-State youth, the nation, the world, military and first responders and the Tri-State communities.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Reverend Mike Direnzo.
After the program the Prayer Committee invites everyone to gather on the steps of the East Liverpool City Hall, 126 W. 6th St., to continue with prayer with other area pastors with the same focus points.
There are no tickets required for the city hall prayer gathering, and anyone with a desire to pray for the community, community leaders and citizens is encouraged to attend.
There will be a youth prayer rally with food also on May 7 at the Northside Community Church. The event will feature music, prayers, a message from Adam Murphy, youth leader, Northside Community Church and a presentation of colors from Scout Troop 2012. Food will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 6 p.m.
