Trustees approve revised list for Chip and Seal Program

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees approved a revised road list for the 2026 Chip and Seal Program Monday.

Road Foreman Dave Smith told the trustees that during the county’s annual chip and seal meeting they requested to add .31 miles of Summit Drive to the list for this year’s chip and seal of approved township roads.

With the revision the total number of miles to be done has increased from 4.67 miles to 4.98 miles and includes portions of Crickett Lane, .69 mile; Longs Run Church, .35 mile; Berkshire Road, .9 mile; Broad Street, .2 mile; Highland Drive, .43 mile; Foulks Drive, .22 mile; Maple Drive, .42 mile; Sunset Drive, .19 mile; Adkins Street, .06 mile; McCra Street, .17 mile; Trotter Street, .26 mile; Bond Street, .16 mile; Crestview Place, .17 mile; Pineview Drive, .35 mile, Oakridge Drive, .1 mile and Summit Drive, .31 mile.

Chip and seal for the township is expected to take place July 22 through 24.

Smith requested and was given approval to purchase 100 tons of #2 limestone for road maintenance at a cost of $28.32 per ton, for a total cost of $2,832.

Lt. Randy Schneider, Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD), reminded residents that there is a statewide burn ban during the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 31.

Schneider also said the department’s calls are up by 110% from this point last year.

CVFD has received two training grants and expects to begin installing the dry hydrants purchased with another grant shortly. The department will be working with the St. Clair Township Road Department on installing the hydrants.

Fire Chief Dave McCoy is working with the Buckeye Water District to do flow testing in preparation for the department’s ISO evaluation.

Schneider also said that the department’s new engine should be completed by Jan. 6, 2027, and would then take approximately another month to outfit it. The anticipated delivery date for the new engine is Feb. 6, 2027.

Schnieder noted that the CVFS has several fund-raising events coming up including Shamrock the Plaza at Dunham’s Plaza on March 14, The Good Friday Fish Fry on April 3 and the Fire House 5K on May 24.

The trustees voted to go into executive session for personnel matters to interview applicants for the road department and returned to open meeting with no action taken

A purchase order for $977.99 and bills totaling $94,492.04 were approved for payment.

The township clean-up day will take place on April 25. Anyone wanting to participate should meet at the community center at 9 a.m.

The St. Clair Travel and Tourism Board will meet March 12 at 7 p.m. in the community room as the township government building.

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the St. Clair Township Government Building, 15442 Pugh Road. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 23.
