Judge looking for new CC Park District member to fill an unexpired term

LISBON — Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Thomas Baronzzi is looking for a new Columbiana County Park District Board member to fill an unexpired term.

The court issued a press release Thursday to solicit applications from residents of Columbiana County who have interest in seeking the court’s appointment to the county Park District Board for the open seat.

Interested persons must file with the court a resume including relevant qualifications and their educational background no later than 4 p.m. April 30 at Probate Court, located on the first floor of the downtown courthouse in Lisbon. All resumes received will be filed under the case number PM2026001 and will remain a matter of public record.

Resumes already filed with the county Park District Board have been forwarded to the court and those persons will receive a copy of the court entry regarding the appointment of a park district board member. An additional resume isn’t required to be submitted for consideration.

After receiving and reviewing all applications received, the court may schedule interviews and then proceed with appointment to fill the vacancy.

Former longtime park district board member Tom Butch resigned during the first meeting in January. He had just started a new four-year term which doesn’t expire until Dec. 31, 2029.

During a special meeting in February, current board members David Hughes, Megan McMaster and Vice Chairman Crystal Siembida Boggs voted to recommend Michael Bates of Lisbon to fill the unexpired term vacated by Butch. Chairman Joe Lawhorn was unable to attend that meeting.

Siembida Boggs submitted Michael Bates’ information to the court for Baronzzi to review. Baronzzi is the appointing authority for the park district board.

There had originally been two candidates who expressed interest in joining the board, but one candidate who had been interviewed by McMaster and Lawhorn withdrew his name from consideration. Siembida Boggs and McMaster interviewed Bates.

Bates was already involved with the parks, helping during a cleanup project at Scenic Vista Park according to Siembida Boggs.

The next meeting of the park district board is 11:30 a.m. April 15 at the park district office on Maple Street, Lisbon.

The address for the court is: Columbiana County Probate Court, 105 S. Market St., Lisbon, Ohio 44432.
