ELHS students recognized for creation of marketing video

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool City Schools Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig recognized students Jude Brown, senior, Alex Holt, junior, and the entire Potter News Network Team for their creation of a marketing video showcasing the best of East Liverpool City Schools during Monday’s school board meeting.  

Ludwig commended the students for their outstanding technical skills, creativity and commitment to showing the best of East Liverpool City Schools and presented Jude and Alex with certificates.  

The video was designed as a district recruitment video and was produced by the high school interactive media students.  

Ludwig also recognized Sarah Porter, nurse; Alexis Roadman, third-grade teacher, both at LaCroft Elementary School; Lisa Mizer, 

Ryan Smith and Hannah Sevek, teachers at Westgate Middle School, for receiving IMPACT awards; ELJH Music for 23 superior ratings at OMEA District 8 Solo and Ensemble; six Westgate students who were featured at the Butler Institute of Fine Art; Carsyn Maola, sixth grade, who work was selected for the official book cover in the Perfect Pets Contest; Hunter Estell, Deonte Slappy, and Brady Dawson for their first place finish in the regional JA Titan Competition which earned them advancement to the nationals in Boston, Massachusetts and Scholar of the month Tatum Fink.

The board members congratulated Jude and Alex on their video and said they would like to see that used for more.  

Ludwig said 45 ELHS students participated in a Washington, D.C., trip.   

Ludwig noted that for operations and health initiatives, the Akron Children’s Mobile Unit will be at North Elementary and the Jr. Sr. High School next week and Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year are now open through the FinalForms online and packets are available at at North and LaCroft elementary schools.  

For the finance portion of the meeting, board members approved the financial reports including cash summary and cash received and disbursement and receipt reports for February 2025 as presented to them; policy 3313.843 for alignment purposes with the ESC of Eastern Ohio; the purchase agreement for Chromebooks and the contract to allow OSC to provide bids for electric suppliers.  

For personnel, board members approved two classified substitutes and nine supplemental employees for the 2026-2027 school year and one classified appointment for the 2025-2026 school year.  

Board members also approved the Summer School Plan for 2026, the third grade ELA test in 2026-2027 to be completed using pencil and paper and transportation to and from prom and afterprom on April 25-26.  

 High School Summer School-Senior Credit Recovery will be one six-week session June 15 to July 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be no school on June 19 for observance of Juneteenth and on July 3 for observance of Independence Day.  

The board members voted to go into an executive session for a discussion of personal matters and returned to an open meeting forum with no action taken.  

The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Administration Building, 810 W 8th St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 23.
