WELLSVILLE — Three students advanced to the county competition Wednesday following five rounds of the Wellsville Local School District Spelling Bee.

Sixth-grader Jules Hoit prevailed as champion, correctly spelling “warlock” for the win. Eighth-grader Korbin Foden and sixth-grader Jaivianna Ross finished second and third, respectively. All received a trophy.

The three will participate in the Columbiana County Spelling Bee to be held Saturday, March 7 at the Beaver Local Schools Auditorium. Thirty students participated in the Wellsville competition.

Hoit and Korbin were named respective grade-levels winners. Zander Manning was the grade-level winner for the fifth grade. There was no grade level winner for seventh grade as those students were all eliminated in the same round.

In the first round, 21 of the 30 contestants were eliminated and six more were eliminated in the second round, leaving the top three students to compete in three more rounds to determine the champion.
