Two arrested in connection with Chester Subway burglary

CHESTER – Two area residents have been arrested in connection to the burglary of the Subway sandwich shop along U.S. Route 30 earlier this month, while a third suspect remains at large.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office announced, Wednesday, the arrest of Andrew Toth and Kaitlyn Banchi, both of Chester, on charges of accessory before the fact and accessory after the fact in relation to the burglary which took place Feb. 17.

Law enforcement officials continue to search for Nicholas Konrad, of New Jersey, with an arrest warrant issues on charges of entry of a building other than a dwelling.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were contacted by the manager of the Subway at approximately 8:30 a.m., Feb. 17, reporting a break-in of the business.

Deputies responded, determining there was no one inside the building at that time. Deputies gathered evidence from the scene, including a review of video footbage which showed an individual breaking the glass on the door at around 12:35 a.m. the same day, entering the establishment and going straight to the cash register and then the business’ safes.

The individual was seen through the footage walking to the Subway along Route 30 from the east, and returning the same direction after leaving the building.

Additional footage from outside of the Subway showed a dark SUV pulling into the Gumby’s located nearby shortly before the break-in, where it sat in the parking lot until the suspect came out of the Subway, when the vehicle also headed east.

Deputies were able to identify the driver and passenger in the vehicle, conducted interviews and executed search warrants on the SUV and the individuals’ phones, through which they were able to identify the break-in suspect, identified as Konrad.

Both Toth and Banchi are scheduled to appear in Hancock County Magistrate Court on March 5.

Starting at $2.99/week.
