St. Clair Twp. trustees caution residents to ignore email advising them of energy provider switch

CALCUTTA – Trustee Robert Swickard of the St. Clair Township Board of Trustees advised residents to do nothing with the email many have received saying that Dynegy was no longer the contracted energy provider and the provider would by changed.

Swickard said he was on the phone first thing Monday morning with Art Deininger of Buckeye Energy Brokers, the company that brokered the deal between the township and Dynegy trying to figure out what was going on.

Swickard said he was told the emails were a mistake and Deininger was looking into the matter to see what happened.

In an email sent to St. Clair Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson, Deininger said, “Please tell everyone to stay static, not to call Dynegy and remain patient while the issue is corrected.”

Swickard also noted he told Dynegy to put every account back into the program, and he is waiting for confirmation on that.

“If they are currently in the township’s aggregation, the issue is being addressed to ensure they remain in the program,” Deininger said in the email.

Swickard advised residents at this time to do nothing; trying to fix the problem on their own could result in higher electric bills, because individually enrolling in Dynegy’s aggregation program would cost them more than remaining where they are with the township’s aggregation agreement.

The township’s 2026 Chip and Seal plan was approved to be presented to the Columbiana County engineer at the county’s upcoming chip and seal meeting.

The township is seeking approval for 4.67 miles of roadway to be included in the chip and seal program. Selected roads sent for approval include portions of Crickett Lane, .69 miles; Longs Run Church, .35 miles; Berkshire Road, .9 miles; Broad Street, .2 miles; Highland Drive, .43 miles; Foulks Drive, .22 miles; Maple Drive, .42 miles; Sunset Drive, .19 miles; Adkins Street, .06 miles; McCra Street, .17 miles; Trotter Street, .26 miles; Bond Street, .16 miles; Crestview Place, .17 miles; Pineview Drive, .35 miles; and Oakridge Drive, .1 miles.

Bills totaling $146,144.55 were approved for payment.

There were no reports from the police or fire departments, no old or new business, and no resolutions to approve.

The trustees voted to go into an executive session with the township council and members of the FOP to discuss contract negotiations for the police department. The trustees returned to open session to adjourn the board meeting with no action taken.

The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the township government building, 15442 Pugh Road, Calcutta. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 9.
