CCBDD plans for Developmental Disability Month in March

LISBON –With March being National Development Disability Awareness Month, The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) is planning a month-long celebration with a variety of activities taking place daily.

Some of the highlights scheduled for the month include the Employer Recognition Dinner to be held at Columbiana County Career Technical Center to recognize those who employ people with developmental disabilities on March 10 and the DD staff versus the Comets at David Anderson High School.

The DD staff versus Comets games is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 26 but could potentially be moved up a day to March 25. The CCBDD will provide updated information if the date is changed.

Other announcements included the presentation of the annual report at the March meeting and accreditation on board services taking place on June 24-25.

Board members approved the renewal of several memberships including PAR (Professionals, Advocates, Resource at a cost of $2,500; the Ohio School Board Association at a fee of $690; Disability Housing Market Network at a fee of $701; and Ohio Self Determination Association at a fee of $750.

Approval of graduation date was removed from the agenda pending confirmation date.

Board members approved the AI in Education Model Policy for Ohio which Superintendent Bill Devon said was the same as the state’s Model Policy, and the 2026-2027 school year calendar which Devon said after comparing several models he opted to go with one similar to Lisbon’s school calendar since that is where the student lunches come from.

An approval was granted to spend up to $5,000 on supplies and upgrades of nursing equipment with Devon noting that with changing technology the price has gone up, but the newer equipment has better accuracy.

The board also approved participation in the Cooperative School Bus Purchasing Program through Stark County Schools Council of Governments.

Devon said participation does not mean a bus is being purchased but if the decision were made to purchase one, they would already be a part of the program and bidding would be done which would save time and money.

The board accepted the finance reports and approval of bills as presented to them.

There was no old business from the board or the superintendent and no new business from the board.

The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities meets the third Wednesday at 4 p.m. at its administration building located at 7675 state Route 45, Lisbon. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 18.

Starting at $2.99/week.
