CC Budget Commission eyes monthly meetings

LISBON — The Columbiana County Budget Commission plans to start meeting monthly to handle amended certificates and appropriations for all subdivisions and the county government.

The commission, which is comprised of the county auditor, the county prosecutor and the county treasurer, met Thursday morning to establish a new way of doing business, setting a monthly meeting at 10 a.m. on the third Monday of every month to approve the certificates and appropriations for all subdivisions, including all townships, villages, cities and the county itself.

Any amended certificates or appropriations needing approval must be submitted to the county auditor’s office by 2 p.m. the Monday before the meeting. If that Monday falls on a holiday, the submission deadline will be 2 p.m. the previous Friday.

Previously, Auditor Nancy Gause Milliken said the certificates were approved as they came in. Now subdivisions will have to plan ahead and budget to comply with the new schedule.

During the meeting, the commission approved the amended certificates they already had on hand and also approved and signed the school budgets submitted for school districts in the county.

The next meeting under the new schedule will be 10 a.m. March 17 in the auditor’s conference room on the first floor of the downtown courthouse.

Starting at $2.99/week.
