BWD to provide local fire chiefs with list of non-working hydrants
WELLSVILLE — The Buckeye Water District will work on composing a list of non-working hydrants to send out to local fire chiefs.
Board Member Paul Bahen, Engineering Committee chair, said during Thursday’s meeting of the Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees that he received a call from the Calcutta fire chief to discuss items he would need fixed for ISO, such as any non-working fire hydrants, and to say he will need three flow tests in the Calcutta area.
District Manager Al DeAngelis told Bahen he just needs a list of the fire chiefs’ email addresses, and the district can email all the departments a list and that the list could be updated as time goes on with updates sent out.
The district is looking to compose a list of email addresses for all fire chiefs within the district and the surrounding area, including Lisbon, just in a case they would need to get on one of the district’s hydrants.
The list would also be used to inform the chiefs of any water main breaks that could affect the use of a hydrant.
A motion made by Board Member Bob Wines, Budget/Audit Committee chair, to authorize writing off the balances off utility accounts identified as being uncollectable in adherence with the Ohio State auditor’s recommendations was approved by majority vote.
Board Member Dean Devitt, Personnel Committee chair, said that the district has had three resignations, the jobs have been posted and interviews will begin soon.
DeAngelis told the board in his report that the Golden Anderson Valve for the number 1 high service pump at the Water Treatment Plant has been repaired, the district has submitted the Environmental Assessment Report for the Beaver Creek Waterline Project to Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for review, crews will be exercising critical valves this month and the district has applied for a Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) grant for a new valve exerciser.
DeAngelis also said that the district has been informed by OEPA (Ohio Environmental Protection Agency) that new regulations are being established for corrosion control treatment and they will take effect in 2028.
There will be a meeting between the district and OEPA to review the different treatment techniques and new regulations.
The Distribution Crew has fixed five leaks and completed on tap.
The Operations Report, Treasurer’s Report, and District Manager’s Report and minutes from the Jan. 15 board meeting and the Jan. 27 special meeting were approved as presented.
There was no public comment, executive session, bid openings, project reports, old business or new business.
The Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees meets the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in council chamber at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 19.
