Beaver Local preparing students for life after graduation

LISBON — The Beaver Local School District is making sure students have plenty of opportunities to prepare for life after graduation.

High School Principal Aaron Walker told the school board in February that several junior and senior students attended the Future Path Leadership Presentation put on by Rich Saphore.

He said the roughly 40 students are interested in attending the Future Path field trip to the 911th Air Lift Wing base in Coraopolis, Pa. on March 11.

He said this trip was postponed from the fall of 2025 due to the government shutdown.

Additionally, he said the high school was approved for additional pre-apprenticeship offerings in the family consumer science classes and high school unit.

“Students who complete five activities that match the criteria for Hospitality will be recognized with the pre-apprentice credential,” he said.

He also told the board that the January HB 123 training assemblies went well. The topics focused on social Isolation, self-care, and depression.

“Amy Gladman from the Counseling Center did a nice job for us regarding these sensitive topics,” he said.

Walker praised school guidance counselors Toni Amato and Mike Agnew for their work with the district.

“Our counselors’ dedication to our students’ mental health and school success is a huge asset to Beaver Local Schools. They are caring and professional individuals, willing to jump in and help out in any situation,” he said.

The counselors were also honored in early February as part of Guidance Counselor Appreciation week.

Walker also informed the board the high school is seeking designation as a Purple Star school.

“We have identified a building liaison who will receive the necessary training and then help coordinate our efforts to complete other requirements to earn the designation. We hope to have completed the requirement so that we can apply this coming November,” he said.

The Purple Star award is presented by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to schools that show a commitment to students and families connected to the nation’s military.

The purpose of the award is to alleviate challenges military children face, including the social and emotional challenges of frequent moves.

Starting at $2.99/week.
