Beaver Local discusses opening Derek Wolfe Fieldhouse to more athletes
Opening up the Derek Wolfe Fieldhouse to more athletes is in the discussion phase at the Beaver Local School District.
District Superintendent Eric Lowe said that use of the new facility has been going well and that many teams are using both the turf and the weight room.
The fieldhouse was completed last fall and features a 50-yard field, weight room and fitness area.
It is named after Super Bowl Champion Derek Wolfe, who graduated from Beaver Local in 2008.
In February, the board of education discussed the possibility of getting an approval process in place for younger Beaver Local affiliated teams outside of the school sponsored teams to gain access to the facility.
“A variety of topics were discussed to be considered to examine how to maximize the use of the facility for district students,” Lowe said.
In addition, Athletic Director Josh Sigler has been in contact with stakeholders after observing the facility in use and noting what improvements could be made to the functionality of the facility.
Lowe said Sigler informed him there are people that are “eager to get in and use the facility and are working to examine the many logistics associated with varying usage items.”
As far as those currently using the facility, Lowe said meetings have been held with coaches to ensure expectations are being expressed.
He said teams and coaches have been working with strength coaches to become familiar with both strength and speed and agility equipment.
“Coaches have been collaborating and working to best meet the needs of athletes while maximizing time in the facility,” he said.
