Columbiana County jail inmate escape case bound over to grand jury

LISBON — A case of third-degree felony escape against Columbiana County jail inmate Bradley Michael Cianni has been bound over for consideration by the county grand jury.

Cianni, 39, last known address Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, appeared in county Municipal Court Wednesday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the charge, with the case bound over automatically.

Cianni, who had been in jail for charges related to other cases, had been taken to East Liverpool City Hospital for medical treatment on Jan. 6 from the jail, with an electronic tracking device attached to him. A county sheriff’s office report said he was admitted and told if he left the hospital grounds, he would be charged with escape.

At 2:25 a.m. Jan. 8, East Liverpool City Hospital notified the sheriff’s office that Cianni removed the electronic tracking monitor and left the hospital in a wheelchair with an IV and a gown, according to the sheriff’s report. He was later caught the same day and placed back in jail, where he had been since being arrested Dec. 27, 2025 on a bench warrant.

Cases already pending against Cianni in Common Pleas Court include one for possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing a cane with a blade inside on April 23, 2025 while under detention. Another case involves a fifth-degree felony vandalism charge and two counts misdemeanor criminal damaging for allegedly damaging a sink and a mattress while he was an inmate at the county jail on July 16, 2025.

The other two cases involve drugs. He’s facing charges of fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and misdemeanors of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments for allegedly possessing methamphetamine, paraphernalia and drug abuse instruments such as syringes on Sept. 11, 2024. He was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly possessing methamphetamine on Feb. 15, 2025.
