Missing elderly man found safe
LISBON — An elderly Fairfield Township man who was reported missing Tuesday night was found safe early Wednesday morning in his vehicle in Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania, according to Capt. Ryan Pike of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.
The endangered missing adult alert that had been issued statewide for James L. While, 83, of Apples Way Court, Leetonia, was cancelled at 6:58 a.m. Wednesday after Pike said he was found.
According to Pike, the incident began at the Walmart in Chippewa in Pennsylvania. While’s family went inside the store and he stayed with the car, a 2008 Mercury Sable, and then apparently left. When they came outside, both he and the car were gone. He was last seen at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Pike said even though the incident occurred in Pennsylvania, the sheriff’s office decided to issue the alert because While is a Columbiana County resident.
He had reportedly driven his car into someone’s yard and got stuck. Pike said he was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
Endangering Missing Adult Alerts through the Ohio Attorney General’s Office give descriptions of the person missing, what they were wearing, height, weight, age, hair color and eye color, along with a short description of when and where they were last seen and a description of their vehicle. Posters also include the phone number of the police agency issuing the alert.
