Prognosis is good for dog starved/abandoned dog

EAST LIVERPOOL — Random, the dog which had been starved and neglected before being brought to the East Liverpool Police Department on Sunday, is doing well and expected to make a full recovery.

Dog Warden Heidi Pecorelli and Deputy Dog Warden Amber Adkins picked Random up Wednesday morning from the Community Animal Clinic where he underwent treatment through an IV for dehydration.

X-rays, blood work and tests for heart worms, parvo and other ailments were conducted to make sure he was healthy.

“Nothing was wrong but pure neglect,” Pecorelli said.

Pecorelli described Random’s temperament as sweet and docile.

“He has a little pep in his step because he is hydrated now,” Pecorelli said. “He came out happy as a lark to greet the deputy and I that picked him up.”

Pecorelli said that Random is eating and drinking and she believes he will bounce back fully. She estimates that by this time next week he will show major changes.

Once his health is recovered, Random will be available for adoption along with the other dogs at the pound.

Pecorelli said she figures it will take approximately the next three weeks to get Random healthy enough to be neutered and get his vaccines before being available for adoption.

She anticipates having a lot of interest in him being adopted and expects him to be ready for adoption in about a month.

She also noted that Random is one of many dogs available for adoption, and that the pound is full right now.

Pecorelli said that anyone with interest in adopting Random when he is ready, or any of the many dogs available for adoption, simply needs to show up at the dog pound and choose their dog. Staff will pull the dog from the kennel and let the person spend some time with the dog and see if they are interested and if the dog will work right with their family.
