Newell man facing charges following shooting incident
NEW CUMBERLAND – A Newell man is in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail following a report of a man being shot at his residence early Wednesday morning.
Mark Fuller, 58, of Harrison Street in Newell, faces charges of wanton endangerment with a firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
He currently is being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, with bonds set at $7,500 on the felony wanton endangerment charge and $2,500 on the misdemeanor discharge of a firearm charge, according to online court records.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving a report around 1 a.m. Wednesday of a man shot at a residence on Harrison Street in Newell, initially being told a person was cleaning a gun and it went off.
Deputies arrived at the residence to find two men and a women at the scene.
“The victim was standing at the top of the steps holding a blood-soaked towel to his head,” according to a social media post from the Sheriff’s Department, which noted the female also was located in the upstairs of the residence, while the other male was in the living room.
Hancock County Ambulance arrived on the scene to treat the male who appeared to have a gunshot wound to his head, transporting him to East Liverpool City Hospital. He then was transferred to Pittsburgh for additional treatment.
Deputies, upon questioning the others at the residence, determined there had been no gun cleaning accident, learning, instead, the two males had been shooting rats outside a second story window with a small caliber rifle.
While one was attempting to get the gun off the other, the report indicates, the gun discharged, striking the victim in the head.
