ismantling and scrapping of the former W.H. Sammis Power Plant, just south of Wellsville, continues by B&B Wrecking and Excavating. Most outlying buildings have been torn down and the tunnel that directs traffic on Ohio state Route 7 beneath the smoke stacks, is no longer attached to the main facility. The coal-fired power plant closed in May 2023, resulting in the loss of 140 jobs and marking a shift away from coal-powered energy, as its owner at the time, Energy Harbor, transitioned to carbon-free nuclear power.
