Council opposes payment of $2,210 for dumpster used to remove debris from artwork
WELLSVILLE –During a regular meeting on Tuesday, Wellsville Village Council approved the payment of bills totaling $1,053.
The total of the bills submitted was initially $3,264.07, but council members were opposed to the payment of $2,210.80 to Diamondback Disposal for the dumpster used to remove the debris from the demolished church turned into a controversial piece of artwork by Gigi Janko at 103 11th St.
The village has been trying for two years to get it removed. An anonymous donation was given in the amount of $500 to cover the use of a dumpster for a one time use to get rid of some of the debris. This, according to the mayor, was an arrangement made and agreed upon between Janko’s and the village’s attorneys.
The dumpster ended up, according to the mayor, being used multiple times. Council members have decided to have the mayor send that expense to the village solicitor John Gamble and let the attorneys hash out who is responsible for the payment since the expense was not approved or agreed to by the village.
The Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., in council chambers at Wellsville Village Hall. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18.
