Two seats available on the Beaver Local Board of Education
LISBON — The man recently appointed to serve on the Beaver Local Board of Education is hoping to retain a seat for the next term.
Louis Volino is running in the November general election for one of two available seats on the board alongside incumbent Greg Eisenhart and candidate Sam Pruden.
Eisenhart is the only incumbent running.
Pruden previously applied for the open seat on the board that is currently filled by Volino following the recent resignation of former board member Jerry Barnett.
Volino, 39, of East Liverpool, was appointed in September and will serve until the current term expires on Dec. 31 of this year.
He and his wife Erin have two children currently enrolled in the district.
“I am running for school board because I want to ensure the best opportunities for all students in our district. As a father of two sons at Beaver Local and someone actively involved in their education and athletics, I have seen both the strengths of our district and where we can grow. I want to bring that perspective and commitment to serving our students, teachers, community,” he said.
Volino said he is qualified to continue serving on the board because as a physician he has experience in problem solving, teamwork, and making thoughtful decisions that impact people’s lives.
Volino is board certified through the American Osteopathic Board of Medicine and currently holds several positions, including medical director, associate medical director, attending physician, hospice physician, and physician at facilities in East Liverpool, Hubbard, Boardman, North Lima and Niles.
Prior to that he served as night officer at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and as hospitalist for Prima Health Care at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
He is an East Liverpool High School graduate and holds licensures in both Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Licd Support.
His volunteer service includes serving as River Valley Youth Baseball coach and Beaver Local Youth Basketball coach.
Volino said that through the years of volunteering as a coach, he has had the privilege of working with children, families, and community members, which has strengthened his understanding of the values and needs of the district.
“These experiences give me the perspective, commitment, and skills to serve effectively on the school board,” he said.
He feels voters should elect him because he brings both professional experience and personal commitment to the schools.
“As a physician I am skilled at listening, problem-solving, and making thoughtful decisions. As a parent of two sons in the district and a volunteer coach, I am deeply invested in our students’ success. I will work to ensure strong academics, opportunities in athletics and activities, and a supportive environment for every child,” he said.
Candidate Sam Pruden, 50, of East Liverpool, said he wants to serve on the board to help Beaver Local continue to be successful.
He is a 1994 Beaver Local graduate and recently accepted a gas operations supervisor position with Waste Management, a company he spent the last 18 years working for in various positions, including as operator and gas tech.
He and his wife Michele have a son enrolled in the district.
He said he enjoys attending sporting events and school activities and he feels he should be elected because he is familiar with the community and will be open-minded when making decisions, especially when it involves the students.
Incumbent Greg Eisenhart did not fill out a candidate questionnaire.
