Superintendent shares student highlights with school board
EAST LIVERPOOL — Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig gave a recap of student highlights to board members at Thursday’s East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meeting.
He told board members that 1,119 parents attended parent-teacher conferences on Oct. 9 and that more than 150 students represented East Liverpool on Friday nights with 50 for football, 25 for cheer and 80 for band.
As an attendance initiative, free game passes have been awarded to 180 Westgate students, 275 high school students, and 180 junior high students.
During Senior Night, the ELHS Class of 2026 athletes were honored with the traditional Potter Senior Walk and the boy’s cross country team qualified for regionals. Maddox Roach set a school record and won Buckeye 8 and Daminyka Lisk advanced for the girls.
Ludwig said wrapping up fall sports, it was a strong season for soccer, golf, and girl’s tennis with Lana Le and Lanease Andrew competing at districts.
He noted the district’s buildings and grounds have been actively used with schools hosting community events such as North and LaCroft grandfriends lunches, Mighty Potters Youth Football, ELHS Band and Glow Show and regional cheer competitions.
“The facilities continue serving as active hubs for athletics, arts and family engagement,” Ludwig said.
He touched on several community partnerships including The Brightside Project’s Sunshine Bus visiting the district and the College and Career Fair which hosted five neighboring districts. He noted that the fair has a strong turnout, regional collaboration, and highlights East Liverpool’s leadership in career readiness.
All CTE programs exhibited projects at the fair, and Early Childhood Education and Landscape and Environmental Design won Student Choice and Overall Winner.
CTE programs have been active in the community with the Construction Tech building picnic tables for the sensory garden at North and Landscape and Environmental Design students partnering with the East Liverpool Beautification Society to restore landscapes on Sixth and Washington Streets.
CTE students have also visited Westgate and the junior high to promote early career awareness.
Ludwig recognized students Elijah Grogg, senior, for completing his Eagle Scout Project and Garrett Cooper, sophomore, for stepping into play drums with the Wellsville Band at the County Showcase.
Under finance, the board approved the renewal of the Jefferson Health Plan consortium contract for health insurance and the creation of accounts for the Early Childhood Education, Girls Flag Football and School of Rock clubs at the high school.
Under personnel, the board approved the resignations of Billie Conrad, paraprofessional, effective Oct. 17 and Patty Millhoan, driver, effective Sept. 9.

The Sunshine Bus has visited North, Westgate and East Liverpool Jr. High and will be at LaCroft next week and the high school the first week of November.
The board entered an executive session for the purpose of considering the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion, or compensation of a public employee or official, or the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official and preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations/bargaining sessions.
