Liverpool Township fire department creates new positions
LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Fire Chief Jacob Russell told the Liverpool Township Board of Trustees during Tuesday’s meeting that he wanted to congratulate two firefighters on their recent promotions and that he made the decision to create two new positions, which include a training officer at each station.
Russell said this would greatly benefit the department in many ways by allowing the training officer to select the monthly trainings based off what the younger, less experienced officers say they are not comfortable with or want to learn. The training officer will hold a meeting once a month to meet and discuss what trainings are wanted and they will report that to the chief or assistant chief.
There will be five firefighters taking continuing education training beginning in January.
The lights on engines 21 and 22 were scheduled for repair and heaters were successfully installed at Station 8 in both bays.
Phoenix Fire Equipment will be bringing samples of new bunker gear to the station on Nov. 8
Police Chief Jarod Kinemond said he was working on quotes for a new cruiser and he received two of them. He is not wanting to buy one now, but he does want the trustees to work with the bank and see what payments would be and figure if they want to finance or buy one outright.
RADAR recertifications are coming due and will be done next month.
The department has firearm qualifications on Saturday.
The department is going to need to upgrade the Easy Street software that they use for crash reports due to it being out of date and not working properly. Kinemond is training to get the price on what four licenses for it will cost.
Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth asked the trustees about the discussion at a previous meeting of hiring Stacy Vallnogle for the road department on a 30-day probationary period starting Nov. 3 at $16.10 an hour. The trustees gave the approval for the hire.
Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said that she is performing day-to-day activities and she reconciled the September bank reconciliation. She also said she created the township’s public office rewards and reimbursement polices
The trustees approved four resolutions for supplementing appropriations in the police fund in the amount of $25,000 for medical/hospitalization and adopting the Columbiana County Hazard Mitigation Plan, the township’s public officer reward program policy and the township reimbursement policy.
The rewards policy prohibits any township employee who earns rewards while traveling for business from using them for personal use and the reimbursement policy prohibits township employees from being refunded tax paid on township purchases since the township is tax exempt. If a purchase it totaled with tax, the employee needs to have it rewritten to not include the tax.
Trustee Dennis Giambroni said that the litter program is winding down for the year.
Trustee Mike Bahen said he has been looking into grants for the fire department and the FEMA grant needs a grant writer and asked for and was granted approval to allow Russell to use a grant writer for the grant.
Bills totaling $50,311.76 were approved for payment.
The East Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 11.
