Boyce Church anniversary

Boyce Church of East Liverpool, located on Anna Street in the East End, will be celebrating its fifth anniversary as a non-denominational church at 10 a.m. Oct. 5. After celebrating its 100 the anniversary as a United Methodist Church in 2005, the church in 2020 became Boyce Church of East Liverpool. The congregation will be recognizing 16 pastors, two missionary couples and one vocalist. They were called to their ministry during the revival days at Boyce Church during the 1970s and 1980s. The pastors include: Chuck Adkins, Joel Adkins, Bill Bailey, Joe Cilone, Chuck Coleman, Rick Dawson, Rick Dieringer, Carl Fannin, Tom Gualtier, Doug George, Bob Hooker, Loren Hooker, Ron Lithgow, Larry Rose, Alvin Talkington and Tony Vohar. The missionary couples include Sam and Karen Sue Kohler, and Alan and Sue Houk. The vocalist is Saundra Grigsby.

Chester Garden Club monthly meeting

The Chester Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the Chester Municipal Building on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Vice President Susie Wilson called the meeting to order and led the group in The Pledge of Allegiance. Donna Stevens led the Garden Club Prayer and read “He Is Always Near.” Mary Ann Wright gave the treasurer’s report.

Thanks were extended to Neil and Paige Rayle, Ki Trelaine, Kat Rossi, and Wilson for removing the summer flowers from the planters along Carolina Avenue and replacing them with fall decorations. These will be changed out with Christmas decorations the week of December first.

Wilson thanked Deb and Curt Havens for purchasing pumpkins and placing them in the Richmond Garden for the fall season.

Members signed a thank you card for Jeremiah Minger for his pro bono landscaping work at the Richmond Garden. Minger laid landscaping fabric and added river rock to cut down on the need for weeding. He also trimmed the trees and shrubbery.

Members will sell their fundraiser jigsaw puzzles titled “My Hometown, Chester WV” at the Hancock County Senior Center Fall Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 4. Puzzles also can be purchased by contacting club member Susie Wilson at 304-374-0686. The price is $20. Members will meet at the Chester Municipal Building on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. to carpool to the Van Horne Grand Tea Room in Carrolton.
