Trial for man accused of lying to police continued to Jan. 14

LISBON — The man accused of lying to investigators regarding the 2021 murder of 20-year-old Brycen Douglas in East Liverpool won’t face a jury trial now until 9 a.m. Jan. 14.

Kidder, 25, Bradshaw Avenue, East Liverpool, appeared Monday morning before Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton accompanied by defense attorney Joe King, who was standing in for defense attorney James Wise.

He was scheduled for a jury trial next week, but county Assistant Prosecutor Steve Yacovone said he had spoken with Wise and they were submitting a joint motion to continue the trial to a later date. Judge Megan Bickerton granted the continuance and set new dates in January. A final status hearing was set for 10:20 a.m. Jan. 5.

Kidder’s $50,000 recognizance bond was continued, keeping him out of jail.

He’s charged with obstructing official business, a third-degree felony. The indictment alleged that he did on July 22, 2021 with purpose to hinder the discovery, apprehension, prosecution, conviction, or punishment of another for a crime, or to assist another to benefit from the commission of a crime, communicate false information to any person, noting that the crime committed was aggravated murder, murder or a felony of the first or second degree.

Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino previously alleged that Travis Kidder “presented facts and circumstances that appear to be fabricated. He lied to investigators.”

A final status hearing remains set for 9:20 a.m. Sept. 22. Kidder remains out of jail on a $50,000 recognizance bond.

The person charged with shooting Douglas to death, Elvin EJ Tisdale, 35, Newell, W.Va., was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in June for aggravated murder and murder plus an additional mandatory three years for a firearm specification and an additional 36 months or three years for having weapons under disability related to being prohibited from having or using a gun due to a previous felony conviction for drugs.

Allen Tisdale, 25, Lisbon, was also indicted for aggravated murder, murder and firearm specifications for the death of Douglas, but pleaded guilty in May to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter and complicity for a weapons charge. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
