State report card results provide insight for CCESC

LISBON — The results of the recent state report card for public school districts is providing insight for the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (CCESC).

ESC Superintendent Marie Williams said during this month’s board of education meeting that this was the first year that college, career, workforce and military readiness were rated.

“We will take a closer look at that with our Business Advisory Council,” she said, according to minutes of the meeting posted online.

The Ohio School Report Cards for the 2024-25 school year were made available by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) last week.

According to the DEW press release announcing the results, the statewide math achievement reached the highest level it has in five years and more graduates are earning college credits and industry credentials.

“These outcomes reflect the impact of Ohio’s strategic investments in career-technical education and its focus on preparing students for in-demand careers and lifelong success,” the release stated.

The ESC’s Business Advisory Council is one of more than 120 BACs in the state and is for the purpose of establishing partnerships with education and business leaders to identify strategies to transform the student learning experience.

More information on the local BAC can be found on the ESC website, www.ccesc.k12.oh.us

According to the website, all schools districts and Educational Service Centers are required to have a Business Advisory Council.

Williams also noted in her report to the board that the Columbiana and Beaver Local school districts earned the highest ratings in the Columbiana County on their respective report cards.

Districts can earn 1-5 star ratings, and Columbiana and Beaver Local both earned 4.5 stars.

“The release of the school report cards has given our Curriculum and Instruction team some good starting points to focus on as we move forward,” Dennis Dunham, ESC Director of Teaching and Learning said.
