Students at Daw Elementary spent part of their summer sharpening their skills in a fun and practical way through the school’s Curious Minds Club, a hands-on learning program for students in grades 3 through 6. Held Aug. 12 through 21, the club used project-based learning to design, budget, advertise, and operate a lemonade stand. Along the way, students applied math to manage costs and profits, science to perfect recipes, social studies to understand community connections, and language arts to create persuasive advertisements. “The lemonade stand gave students a chance to see how all of their subjects connect in the real world,” said Principal Erin Clemmer. “It was wonderful to watch them problem-solve and take ownership of their learning.” The program also provided transportation and snacks each day, helping make it accessible and enjoyable for all participants. Money raised from the stand was used to purchase PBIS prizes for students at Daw, allowing the project to directly benefit the school community. The program was led by teachers Valerie Reese, Mitchell McDowell, and Matt Turoczy, who guided students through each step of the process. Curious Minds Club was not only a refreshing way to spend the summer but also a powerful reminder of how learning can be engaging, meaningful, and fun. (Submitted photo)
