Full local ballot slated for November general election

LISBON — The Nov. 4 general election will include a hefty list of candidates, issues and local liquor options, with contested races expected all over Columbiana County for councils, township trustee boards and school boards.

The deadline for nonpartisan candidates and any issues or local liquor options to file petitions and paperwork was 4 p.m. Wednesday at the county Board of Elections. The election board will meet at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12 to certify the petitions and local liquor options. The deadline for write-in candidates doesn’t fall until 4 p.m. Aug. 25.

Both candidates for county Municipal Court Judge, who are both Republican, are unopposed for six-year terms, with Judge Tim McNicol of Wellsville seeking re-election to the Jan. 2 term and Danielle Menning of Leetonia seeking her first term on the bench. She won the Republican primary against current Judge Kelly Linger for the Jan. 1 term.

Cities and villages

The following list includes partisan candidates who won primaries or were unopposed in cities and village and nonpartisan village candidates.

Columbiana: all Republicans; Mayor, Rick Noel, and Council (three to elect), Bobby Quetot, Ted Souder and Amanda Banner.

East Liverpool: President of Council, John Torma, Independent; Council-at-Large (three to elect), Democrat John Mercer, Republican Thomas Clark and Independent Brian Kerr; First Ward, Independent Tom Beagle; Second Ward, Democrat Deb Danver; Third Ward, Independent Jeffrey Kreefer; and Fourth Ward (one to elect), Independent Andrew Arcuragi and write-in Craig Stowers. No candidate filed for Treasurer.

Salem: President of Council, Republican Evan Newman; Treasurer, Republican Tod Mumpire; Council-at-Large (three to elect), Republicans Michael Weir, Trent Tice and Jim Harrington and Democrat George Begalla.

Leetonia: Council (four to elect), Republican Roman Ferry and Democrats William Merdich, William Garlough and Leisa Lorch.

Lisbon: Council (four to elect), Republican Melissa Hiner and Independents Patricia Kronenberg, Susan Temple, Joe Vitko, Jerry Cox, Joe Morenz and Jereme Kliner; Board of Public Affairs, Independent Cora Lewis.

Wellsville: Council (two to elect), Independent Michael Lombardozzi.

East Palestine: Council (three to elect), Barbara Herriott, Erin Stauffer and Thomas Anthony Povenski Jr.; Council unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027, John Simon Jr.

Hanoverton: Council (four to elect), Scott Cope and Zach Kennedy.

New Waterford: Council (four to elect), Trish Wilson, Cynthia Doran and Chad Hess.

Rogers: Mayor, unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027, Marsha Bolan; no candidates filed for four council seats.

Salineville: Council (four to elect), Ryan Smith, Pam Tedeschi, Teddy Mitchell, John Higgins, Nancy Needham and John Vennum; no candidates filed for two seats on Board of Public Affairs.

Summitville: Council (four to elect), no candidates.

Washingtonville: Council (four to elect), Peggy Frank.

Townships

All the townships have two to elect for trustee, with only a couple townships having fiscal officers on the ballot. In Mahoning County, township races include (two to elect for trustee): Goshen, John Bricker and Teresa Stratton; Green, Thomas Frank, John Fromel, Micahael Janik and Mark Stepuk, and fiscal officer unexpired term ending March 31, 2028, Erin O’Hara; Smith, Terry Criss and Larry Barnett, and unexpired trustee term ending Dec. 31, 2027, Scott Showalter.

In Beloit, council candidates include Sherry Augustein and Matt Hutton and for an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027, Laura Schaeffer. Candidates for Board of Public Affairs include Louis Hannum and Kristine Shoemaker.

In Sebring, council candidates (four to elect) include Samantha Phillips, Marvin Aberegg II and Steven Smith.
