E-ticket systems installed in police cruisers

Between a wage increase for part-time police officers and installation of six new e-ticket systems in police cruisers, council is hoping potential candidates will see the value of serving the Chester community.

Assistant police chief Ethan Skolrud shared news on the six new e-ticket systems he was able to install thanks to the city’s receipt of grant funding.

Three of the six systems have been installed in cruisers as of Monday.

Not only does it generate tickets through the city’s internal cruiser laptop network, but it also prints the tickets to thermal paper so the ticket can be given to the cited individual.

During Monday’s regular council meeting, members unanimously deposited $247,801.75 into the general fund and $6,517 in the building fund as well as paid $116,148.50 worth of bills.

Ashton Pilmer filled in as city clerk for an absent Tara Ayers.

Members also approved a closure of Third Street on Saturday, Oct. 10 for Chestnut Hill Candles, which is hosting an annual festival, and Gordon Greer to remove a curb near his property in the 500 block of Louisiana for a future driveway.

City officials also agreed to seek bids for an upgrade of two sections of concrete outside the municipal building.

Councilmembers also approved a revised quote for an additional three camera system, which they expect to cost around $16,000.

Coal severance funds of around $6,000 each were awarded to Chester parks board and Lynn Murray Memorial Library.

Part-time patrolman also will see hourly rate increase from $21 to $24.17, which is the new hire pay per hour.

The next council meeting will be moved to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8 as their normal meeting night falls on the Labor Day holiday.
