City man to face jury trial in November for felony rape charges

LISBON — A jury trial remains set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 17 for Brett Thompson, an East Liverpool man charged with four counts of first-degree felony rape.

During a status hearing Wednesday, Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam met briefly behind closed doors with counsel for both sides and then said on the record that there was no resolution in his case and negotiations were continuing.

A final status hearing remains set for 10 a.m. Oct. 10.

Thompson, 20, Dairy Lane, was accompanied by his defense attorney, Joseph Ohlin. The state was represented by Assistant Attorney General William Walton II, who was assigned to prosecute the case after the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office cited a possible conflict.

Thompson remains out of jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond, with an order to have no contact with the victim.

According to the indictment, Thompson allegedly compelled a woman to submit by force or threat of force to sexual conduct from Oct. 1, 2023 to Oct. 2, 2023, with each count representing a different form of sexual conduct.
