EAST LIVERPOOL — The Columbiana County Community Action Agency’s Health, Behavorial Health and Dental Centers held a back-to-school drive through in East Liverpool to help families with back-to-school supplies.

The event held Thursday night in the parking lot of the First Church of the Nazarene, 670 Walnut St., was held for the first time in East Liverpool.

According to Jody Wisbith, CAA Health, Behavorial Health and Dental Centers marketing coordinator, the event has typically been held in Lisbon. The change was due to the agency wanting to reach out to people in East Liverpool with their mobile unit, especially since the agency is starting to collaborate with East Liverpool City Schools and will be on-site at the schools.

“We usually do this every year and it is usually pretty successful,” Wisbith said. “Everything is free. I have CAA Carts helping me, CAA Head Start and CAA Community Services.”

Families who attended the event could drive or walk through the church parking lot and get a book bag with a notebook, glue sticks, pens and pencils along with pencil bags and colored pencils and other supplies

The supplies were purchased by CAA Health. Wisbith noted that this is Community Health Center Week and the school supplies drive through is one of the events they do to help celebrate Community Health Center Week and give to the community.

Also on site for the event was the CAA Health Mobile Unit, which is used to provide dental cleanings, some medical services and counseling for students at the schools.

They were prepared to hand out approximately 400 book bags during the event. According to Wisbith there was probably handed out within the first 20 minutes.
