Woman, unborn child die after run over by car

EAST LIVERPOOL — A young woman who was pregnant has died from injuries sustained when she was run over by a car Saturday at the Wharf in East Liverpool.

Stephanie Householder, 21, estimated to be between five and nine weeks pregnant, and her boyfriend Cameron Martin, 19, were at the Wharf on Saturday afternoon.

According to East Liverpool Police Chief John Lane, the couple was experiencing some difficulty in their relationship and were arguing when Householder got out of the car. She was then run over by Martin.

Police were called to the Wharf at 1:30 p.m. for a report of an incident with a vehicle.

Lane said the incident is currently under investigation with charges coming in the future.

“We are working hand-in-hand with the prosecutor’s office,” he said. “It will probably go through the grand jury and from the grand jury there will be an indictment and then he will be served.”

Lane said he cannot know whether it was intentional or not. Intent or lack of intent would determine what the charges will be. But if intentional, they would have to be able to prove intent.

“When he came in to give his statement, he was cooperating,” Lane said. “He did back up fast, but it doesn’t appear he meant to run her over.”

Lane said that she was not directly behind the car and that Martin let her cross over. He thinks that as she got to the other side he backed to line the car up and she possibly cut into the road. He also noted he believes Martin was just trying to peel out –putting the car in reverse and hitting the accelerator as he was trying to leave.

Householder was transported by helicopter to a Pittsburgh Hospital where she and the unborn child died on Sunday.

Officers from Liverpool Township and St. Clair Township police departments responding to help East Liverpool officers control the scene.
