EAST LIVERPOOL– The East Liverpool Fire Department has acquired two new thermal imaging cameras through a donation from the Elks Lodge #258.
According to Fire Chief Antony Cumo the Elks Lodge reached out to him in May and asked if they could donate money for equipment.
The fire department noted that they have been in the process of replacing their thermal image cameras that are more than 10 years old with newer more compact cameras.
Knowing that, the Elks offered to buy the department two FLIR K2 Compact Thermal Imaging Cameras at a cost or approximately $2,000.
Cumo said that with the two new cameras, all of the departments first out trucks have a compact thermal imaging camera attached to the officer’s airpack.
Cumo also said that thanks to the Elks Lodge the department was able to achieve this goal which was set by the department at the beginning of the year.
“Already these cameras have proven to be useful, and our firefighters are very thankful for their donation,” Cumo said. “In previous years they had donated money for us to buy new nozzles for our fire hoses, and to this day we still use them on every fire. We are all very thankful for the support that they have shown over the years, and items like these keep our firefighters and residents safer.”
