Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center August activities

EAST LIVERPOOL – The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center has announced the following activities for August:

Saturday, Aug. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. – Wood Carving Demonstration. Spend some time under the pavilion at the Wildlife Education Center this afternoon and watch Chip Hudson as he demonstrates how to carve wooden items from various types of wood. Guests can examine samples of his work and ask questions.

Sunday, Aug. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. – Live Foxes. Tina and Rob will be under the pavilion with their live pet foxes this afternoon. Guests will learn about the animals and how they care for them. After the program guests can pet them, take pictures, and ask questions.

Saturday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. – No Prize Open Car Show. Some area owners of antique vehicles will have them parked in the yard at the Wildlife Education Center this afternoon as they come out for a picnic under our pavilion. Visitors can view these cars, take pictures, and talk to the owners. People are invited to bring their own antique cars as well.

Sunday, Aug. 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. – Stream Stomp! Meet Matthew Smith and Ryan Moss from ODNR Division of Natural Areas and Preserves in the parking lot of Beaver Creek State Park, 12021 Echo Dell Road for a fun time finding critters that live in Beaver Creek, a Wild & Scenic River. They will identify what is found and talk about water quality and how it affects these organisms. Participants must wear boots or closed-toe shoes to get in the creek for this activity. After the program participants can have a picnic in the park and then visit the Wildlife Education Center in the afternoon. This event will be canceled in the case of unsafe high water or rainstorms.

Sunday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. – Observing Nature Up Close. Join BCWEC volunteers as they show images of macroinvertebrates from Beaver Creek under their dissection microscopes. Guests can learn how microscopes work and examine some of the small living creatures that live in Beaver Creek.

Sunday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. – Carolyn’s Nature Craft -Tree Cookie Picture. Get creative with nature in this “Tree Cookie Collage” craft. Children will use tree slices, sand, and twigs to make a one-of-a-kind mixed media masterpiece. It’s a fun way to explore textures and design while connecting with the outdoors. All supplies provided for the first 25 participants.

Sunday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. – SCAVENGER HUNT on Logan’s Loop Trail! Children and their adults can take a fun short hike on Logan’s Loop trail, located behind the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, and try to find all the animals on the scavenger hunt list. When the hunt is completed, families will receive a booklet about the animals they found on the trail. Adults can pick up the scavenger hunt paper, a pencil, and a clip board under the pavilion. The hike is .6 miles long and has a couple steeper areas. Participants should wear sturdy shoes. Will be canceled in case of bad weather.

Saturday, Aug. 23 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. – “The Incredible Journey.” Join Wildlife Center volunteer Mary Spooner any time during the afternoon for this hands-on activity. Become a water molecule and travel through the water cycle. Will you be caught up in a cloud or trapped in an iceburg? Roll the special cube to determine the next move on your journey. Work at your own pace.
